On Thursday, July 14th, the Home Office welcomed four middle school "Achievers" (and their mentors) to our office. These Achievers are part of the Friends of the Children organization located in Boston, MA. The day started off with an introduction and office tour with our CEO, Mark. The children got to learn more about MaidPro and ask questions about who we are and what we do. Mark closed out his session by sharing five important keys to success with the children.
Next up was our resident scientist of all things related to product, Melissa. The kids were shown how to test and compare various cleaning products and she spoke on the importance of doing little things to "wow" our clients. Melissa ended her session with a tutorial on making toilet paper flowers.
The marketing duo of Sara and Michael had the children using their "gaming" skills as well as their knowledge of social media to work with various marketing tools, including Illustrator and Facebook. These two sessions were definitely up there for favorites of the day!
Kay, our Director of HR, had a session revolving around the importance of being passionate about what you do, and how that passion makes going to work every day awesome. She started off by asking the all-important question of "What do you want to be when you grow up," and used real-life scenarios to help the children navigate their options of finding that spark.
Krishna, one of our engineers, walked the children through creating their very own websites! Taking them step-by-step through HTML coding, each of the Achievers were able to create a custom home page and web URL. The smiles on their faces showed just how proud they were of their very own web magic.
Closing out the day was our President and co-founder, Richard. Richard gathered copies of his favorite book, The Fred Factor, and handed one to each Achiever. He talked with them about business and their goals for the future. He answered questions and took them through some of the inspirational stories from his past. He closed his section ensuring each of the children that he and the rest of MaidPro will be here for support, and gave each child a business card should they ever need advice or mentorship.
The day was filled with a lot of laughs, high fives, hugs, and even some pushups! The seven staff members who contributed to the day thoroughly enjoyed their time spent with the children and are eager to participate in another shadow day soon to spend even more time with the children. We are very much looking forward to welcoming back these four Achievers as well as many more next time!
